Day 15

At home, I started planning everything for the day of the trial.

“I need to tell them of the day we met. I remember he told me about the University, about the Overworld, and he also mentioned his objective.” I wrote down in my notebook.

“Son, what are you doing?”

“I am preparing for tomorrow. I will tell them everything I know about Johansson.” I said.

“Son, I am worried about you. I don’t want you to get in trouble.” Mom said.

“I won’t get in trouble, Mom. I can’t get in trouble for speaking the truth. Johansson, on the other hand, is going to get in trouble just because he is of a different species than us. He is a human, sure, but he isn’t a threat! That’s what I need to tell the Judge and everyone else tomorrow.” I said.

“I believe in you, son. I know you have a good heart and you’ll go to great lengths to help someone else like your dad. I am just worried if you aren’t putting yourself at risk by doing so.”

“Don’t worry, Mom. I am not in danger.” I said.

I understood my mother’s concerns, but I couldn’t ignore the fact that Johansson was a victim of the Police’s wrongdoings. Right outside our home, a reporter crew waited patiently with their cameras and microphones, for the opportunity to interview me.

“Mister Calvin Pignes! May we have a word with you, please?” The reported shouted from outside.

“Please leave me alone! I will say everything I have to say tomorrow!” I said.

“Just give us a small glimpse of what you think about the trial. The viewers want to know your opinion on the matter!” The reporter said.

I went outside and answered a few questions, to drive them away.

“Okay, I will answer some questions, but you’ll have to leave once I am done. Understand?” I said.

“Sure! Tell us Calvin, what do you think is going to happen tomorrow? What are your expectations of this trial?” The reporter inquired me.

“Well, I have high expectations. I want the Judge to listen to me. I have a lot to say about Johansson, he is innocent and he shouldn’t be locked up.” I said.

“What does the human want to do, after all? Exploration is a vague objective!” The reporter asked.

“He wants to better understand our world. He comes from the Overworld, which is a completely different dimension. His purpose is to explore the Nether and see what is new and different here from his home. As a University Professor, it’s only obvious he would want to do something like that.”

“Has he shown you any evidence that he really is a Professor at a University?”

“Uh… Not really.”

“How can you tell he really is a Professor, then? What if it’s a lie?” The reported asked me.

“I… I know he is a Professor! He wouldn’t lie to me! He is such an intelligent and well-articulated human… Of course he is a Professor!”

“Then you’re basing your assumptions on the way he speaks? Are you sure that’s a safe method of evidence?” The reporter asked.
